"Understanding Forgiveness: Why We Struggle with Those We Love Most"

Forgiveness can be tricky, especially when it comes to the closest relationships we have. We often find it easier to forgive people we don’t know well compared to our close friends and family. This is because we expect those we love to understand us better and act accordingly. When they let us down, it hurts more, making it harder to forgive them. On the other hand, when someone we’re not close to does something wrong, we tend to take it less personally. We might think, “They don’t really know me, so it’s not a big deal.” This distance helps us let go of the hurt more easily. We can brush off their actions because we don’t have the same emotional investment in the relationship. However, it’s important to remember that everyone makes mistakes, including our loved ones.
