The Road Isn't Smooth, But It Still Leads Somewhere

If you have ever traveled on a Nigerian road, you know that NOT every journey is smooth. There are potholes deep enough to make you question if your vehicle will remain the same way it was. There are bumps that will force you to slow down. Sometimes, traffic will keep you in one spot for what feels like forever. And at other times, you have to take a longer route because the road you planned to use is no longer accessible or too bad to use. Yet, despite all of these obstacles, people still continue just to arrive at their destinations.

When you think about life that way, there is not much difference.

Many of us expect life to unfold exactly as we planned. We imagine graduating at a certain age, landing our dream job immediately, getting married when we want, building a family, buying a home, and living happily ever after. But somewhere along the journey, life introduces its own potholes and bumps in the form of a failed relationship, the loss of a loved one, a business that didn't survive, a dream job that slipped through your fingers, an unanswered prayer, an unexpected delay and many more.

The truth about this "bumps and potholes" is that these moments shake us differently. Sometimes they make us wonder if we are still on the "right road". And other times, they make us compare our journey with people who seem to be speeding past us. But here is what we often forget, a pothole is not the destination. It is only a part of the road. The mistake many people make is parking their lives at the place where they experienced these bumps and potholes. They stop believing. They stop trying. They stop hoping because one difficult season convinced them that the journey is over. But it isn't.

Listen, the road may be rough, but it is still leading somewhere. Some of the strongest people you admire today didn't get to where they are because the road was smooth and easy, no. They got there because they refused to abandon the journey every time life became uncomfortable. Do not let the roughness of the road stop you from advancing to your destination. The bumps are not there to stop you. They are there to remind you to be patient, to be careful, and to appreciate the destination when you finally arrive.

So if life feels difficult right now, don't quit because of a few potholes. Slow down if you must, take a different route if it is necessary, pause and rest to regain your strength. But whatever you do, don't stop moving. Because the people who eventually reach their destination are not always the fastest. They are the ones who kept going, even when the road gave them a whole lot of reasons to turn back.

This is a quick reminder that difficult seasons are part of the journey, not the end of it. Every road has imperfections, but every step forward still brings us closer to the destination/goal.

  3. This is more than motivation. it is a reminder that we should always give ourselves grace when life doesn't happen according to our plan and the timeline we set.
